  • Sharing your mail address with another student is prohibited.

Can someone else pick up my mail on my behalf?

Yes.  Please submit an email to postofficeask@po.gatech and indicate pick up authorization request in the subject line

Include your GTID, the full name of the person that you are authorizing to pick up your mail, and cc the authorized person in the email request.

Please note that family members of 10th & Home Housing students should show their GTID to access their shared mailbox and do not need to submit an authorization request.

Student Mail Pick-Up

Students will receive an email notifying them that mail (a package/letter) is ready for pick up. The email will direct them to pick up their mail at the Post Office located on the 1st floor of the John Lewis Student Center or at the Mail Processing Center located at 711 Marietta St.

  • Students should remember to bring their BuzzCard or any state-issued photo ID when picking up their mail. Digital ID is acceptable.

  • To alleviate congestion, the Postal Services Team asks that students wait until they have received an email from the GT Post Office telling them mail is ready for pickup before coming to either Post Office location. This will be particularly important in minimizing crowded lines and extended wait times at the Student Center Post Office during peak periods.

  • Be sure to check your mail regularly! Items left longer than 30 days may be returned as unclaimed. Perishable items must be picked up within 48 hours of the email notification.  After 48 hours the items will be discarded.

About Large Packages

Please limit the size of packages you send through the Post Office when possible. Large items like futons, bicycles, or refrigerators are acceptable. However, items shipped on pallets or freight will not be accepted by the Postal Service Team.    Additionally, during peak periods some large packages will be available for pick-up at the 711 Marietta St Mail Processing Center instead of the Student Center Post Office. Students should read their package pickup notification email carefully to find out where their packages should be picked up.

Please keep in mind that a student is responsible for transporting their large items back to their residence halls.

Renting a Campus Mailing Address

If you are moving off-campus, including into Greek Housing, your mailing address will become inactive. If you would like to keep a mailing address number in the Post Office, you must complete the Campus Mailing Address Rental Form. The annual fee is only $30 and covers fall term through summer term. Reservations are on a first come, first served basis, and assignments are not guaranteed to stay the same year after year.  Campus Mailing Address Rental Form

Sending Mail To Your Student

  • Your student is responsible for letting you know their address.
  • Please be sure that mail is addressed with the correct mailing address number and valid zip code. Always use your student’s full name, as listed with the Registrar. Use of another name may prevent mail from reaching your student. For new students who have not yet been assigned a mailing address number: please use the phrase "Incoming New Student" in place of a mailing address number.

  • Special occasion and holiday cards are prime targets for theft. To minimize the threat to your student’s parcels please DO NOT SEND CASH through the mail.

  • The Georgia Tech Post Office recommends using a trackable method of mailing such as delivery confirmation or priority mailing. When sending packages, tracking will indicate when a package has arrived at the Post Office, not when your student has received it.

  • The Georgia Tech Post Office receives packages from the United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service, Federal Express, and DHL. There is no package delivery to the residence halls.
  • Students will be notified they have a package via email. After a week, a second notification will be sent. A week after the second notification, the package will be returned to the sender.

Graduating?  Moving off campus? Moving to Greek Housing?

Students who move off campus or into Greek housing immediately become ineligible for a mailing address number. This action takes place to allow Georgia Tech Postal Services the ability to create space for incoming new residential students.

If you will continue to be enrolled and only moving off campus and would like to maintain a campus mailing address in the Post Office, you must complete the Campus Mailing Address Rental Form. The annual fee is only $30 and covers fall through summer terms.  Mailing address assignments are available on a first come, first served basis, and are not guaranteed to stay the same year after year.  Students who choose not to rent will need to change their delivery address for mail/packages to a non-campus address.

We appreciate your cooperation!  For any questions, please contact the Georgia Tech Postal Services at 404-894-4560 or at postofficeask@po.gatech.edu.

FAQ

How do I get a mailbox?

Students living in on-campus housing will automatically be assigned a mailing address number and will retain that number as long as they live in campus housing. If you move off-campus and want to rent a mailing address number, please notify the Post Office immediately.

Can I still get a mailbox even if I don't live on campus?

All students may request a mailbox and pay a $30.00 non-refundable annual fee. Availability of boxes is limited so applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please stop by the Georgia Tech Post Office on the first floor of the Student Center or contact us at 404-894-4560 for more information.

How often should I check with the post office for mail pickup?

We recommend at least once to twice a week. We perform mailbox housekeeping every 30 to 45 days. Checking your box on a regular basis ensures that your mail will not be returned as unclaimed.

Can someone else pick up my mail for me?

Yes.  Please submit an email to postofficeask@po.gatech and indicate pick up authorization request in the subject line.  Include your GTID, the full name of the person that you are authorizing to pick up your mail, and cc the authorized person in the email request. Note that Family members of 10th & Home Housing students should show their GTID to access their shared mailbox and do not need to submit an authorization request.
